Gilmore-isms

Welcome back, Gilmore Girls! No surprise I've been a big fan of the show since it first aired over 16 years ago. So well written and fast paced, it was fun just to see if I could keep up with everything they talked about. I'll be glued to the tv all this weekend watching the new Netflix original, Gilmore Girls A Year In The Life. 

I invested in the tv show DVD set many years ago because I considered it to be a true classic - something I could watch over and over again. One of the coolest items included in the early DVDs were the "Guide to Gilmore-isms" booklets. These little notebooks were just as fun as the show because I often found myself looking up many of the literary and pop culture references. 

While the first few seasons gave us little notebooks, later seasons gave us an online version of Gilmore-isms. Unfortunately, I've been unable to easily find the online versions, so I'm happy I still have my printed booklets. I do hope the new Netflix series will give us a similar resource in the days to come. 

Down The Rabbit Hole: November 2016

It's time for another DTRH post. This is where I share things that have been grabbing my attention in the world of reading, writing, and creativity. Here's the rundown:

Reading and Bookish Things

• Audio Books - I admit it. I'm one of those people that used to think listening to an audio book was a little like cheating. That's until several of my librarian friends suggested I give it a try. So, I've been participating in the Amazon Audible trial. Honestly, I'm really enjoying it. So far I've listened to "The Witching Hour" by Anne Rice and "Hillbilly Elegy" by J.D. Vance. I've worked it into my daily morning walks and drives back and forth to Tampa. It has been a great way to pass the time. I plan to listen to "Alexander Hamilton" by Ron Chernow during a 10 hour drive over the holidays. 
• Awesome Librarians - Speaking of librarian friends, our local Lakeland Fine Arts/Programming librarian, Brenda Patterson, is probably one of the best gems in our community. We are lucky to have her and I'm sure the world will come to know her soon. 

Writing and Stationery

• Diamine Shimmer Inks - Need I say more?
• Bullet Journaling - Yes, I know you may think I'm late to this party. Actually, in my past life as a process engineer, we used a type of bullet journaling everyday. So, for the first time ever, I may be ahead on something. I do love how the new generation has jazzed it up, because it does help you get things done. Due to a decent amount of requests, I've been working to see if I can incorporate my old style of bullet journal planning into a Midori Traveler's Notebook. I think I've got it down and will be sharing my set up soon.

Epistolary Writing

There is a magical place where my love of missives, journals, and reading collide. It's called the epistolary novel. Over the years I have noticed a pattern - many of my all time favorite stories are told in the form of letters and diaries. This style of writing is known as epistolary writing. 

As a young girl, I remember getting lost in "I Capture the Castle" and not wanting to put it down. As a teenager, confused about religion, I loved how C.S. Lewis entertained me with the satirical letters from Screwtape. And, as a grown woman, I learned just how powerful letters can be thanks to "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker. 

This year Book Riot published an article, "100 Must-Read Epistolary Novels From The Past and Present." It's a great read and resource. I had no idea there were so many of these novels out there and I can't wait to check out some of the titles.
